Description

Drowning in the solitude of her failures, she lay, bound tightly by the grasp of her fear. Fear of what she does not know, what she has not tried, what she cannot be.

It's talons clutching at her, she struggles to the surface, she must break free. Her dreams of hope, happiness and light burning at icy grip ofthe past. Ever striving onwards, she struggles towards that dream, her freedom.

-------------------------------------------

My it's been awhile since I posted (haven't done anything I feel that's worth posting)

This piece was made using photoshop 6. The idea of the picture is about becoming overwhelmed by your failures and gaining the strength to finally break free and keep going. It's an idea I've had for some time now and only now have I gotten around to completing it.

This took around 3 days to complete, on/off whilst chatting and battling to get onto the computer with my brother.

To be honest I've never really enjoyed doing a piece as much as I have this one. It may not be well recieved by others, I'm not sure, but I definately enjoyed making it and learning from it. I think it might have something to do with the personal meaning it holds for me, and hopefully something I can look back at when I get my grades back in February should it not turn out so well!

This was made using a combination of reference pictures, tutorials (for the stars) and my imagination.

this is goregeous, falling, absolutely exquisite. some would say to add colour, but the greyness adds a certain drama. i love the story it tells, keep it up.

Celticatia - Thank you for the nice words=) I'm glad you liked it. I upped the contrast a little to stop it looking so grey and give it more depth, but yeah, I don't think it would have told the story right if I had added colour. Thanks for dropping by=)

Lindabee32 - Thanks for the comment!

Very emotional.

I like the atmosphere the "water makes" :)

One good critique deserves another - - - you have a lot of talent, and your work specifically with faces is exceptionally good - - - - however, your skills with developing an environment need a little work... here in particular, the water rippling around her appears blurred - almost as if its fog. And the sky has a wee bit too much detail - especially that one section where it looks like there's a meteor storm going on. But keep at it - - - you have all the talent, and with a few more pieces, you will definitely have some pretty awesome pieces! (thumbup)

I can totally relate to the description alone...[.you have a great way with words too!]. Her face and position are exquisite. It must be exceptionally hard to do this in B&W, and get all the tones right and you have done very very well on the girl. The water I feel would benefit with a little texture perhaps. The only thing Im not that keen on is the top right corner of sky, a bit too much going on, and the fog area there a bit distracting for me. I think on the whole you have picked a hard medium to start with {ie B&W} but feel that by developing this a bit more your later colour pieces will benefit greatly. because you have to think about tones first, but many pple take ages to get it to the standard you have achieved here :)

Reilanchan - Thanks for the comment^^

Gridlock - Thanks for the input. I agree, I'm pretty new to working with environment. Infact, I think I've only ever done a couple in the past, which isn't good. I really ought to work on that. Hehe as for the sky I guess I probably used the most condensed part of the stars. I think I could try moving it a little to a less condensed part. You know, to get rid of that whole "meteor storm" thing^^; Thanks for commenting^_^

Velvetgoodnite - Thanks for the advice! I'm glad you liked the tones on the girl, I find I'm either hit or miss with that so I'm glad I got it right=) As for the water, I was thinking about adding texture but decided to leave it out because I wanted the water to look almost like oil in a sense, sticking to her and pulling her down. I agree with the sky, now that I think about it, it does interfere with the picture itself. Thanks for the input!^_^ I'll definately work on the points raised.

Good one. I, like the effect of the area around her. Water? Fear? What does fear look like? I love it! and no color in my opinion.
